Programme Manager NYLS The Nigerian Youth Leadership Summit is an annual capacity building meting and intergenerational dialogue bringing together young leaders and experts from across Nigeria to exchange ideas, build networks and increase capacity for the implementation of initiatives that have positive impact on their community members while remaining consistent with national and international development goals. The two previous summits have brought together over 200 youth from the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria and the Diaspora and were held in Port Harcourt and Enugu . The third edition of the summit will be held in Yenagoa, capital city of Bayesa state, September 2-3, 20067 and will focus on Youth Leadership in HIV/AIDS Research for Development. DPI is currently seeking a Programme Manager to organize the summit process, the summit and immediate post summit activities. The programme manager is expected to resume in March 2007 and will be responsible for the overall Coordination of the summit process, as well as liaison with the government of Bayelsa state and the local host NGO. The ideal candidate for this position should: Have a minimum of a Bachelors in any social science field Previous experience with events management and organizing Be familiar with Nigeria 's HIV/AIDS programming and policies Be grounded in research and advocacy Be willing to travel across Nigeria to organize pre-summit capacity building seminars. Interns DPI is currently seeking interns in the following areas: 1.                  Administration and Communication assistant 2.                  Programme Assistant The interns will be based at DPI's offices in Port Harcourt and will support the activities of the organization particularly the activities leading up to the third Nigerian Youth Leadership Summit. The ideal intern is expected to have the following qualities: 1.      Read, write and speak English fluently and a good background in research. 2.      Proficient with the use of Computer and Internet. 3.      Resident in Port Harcourt and able to report to the office for at least 4-6 hours every working day of the week from Monday to Friday. 4.      Previous experience with working in a youth organization and familiar with youth development issues in the Nigerian context. 5.      Be willing to travel across Nigeria to represent DPI at meetings as may be required. DPI will pay interns a small stipend every month plus a Certificate of honour at the end of the internship. All travel expenses plus incidentals for interns will be covered by DPI. However, part of our plans for 2007 is to recruit thematic Coordinators from the six key regions of the African Union (Central, East, North, South, West). The thematic Coordinators will research on issues and provide a perspective on how they affect young people at the regional and continental levels, identify ongoing regional and continental process and seek to ensure the participation of youth in such processes and analyse policies in order to provide information as to whether they are consistent with the aspirations of youth in each region.
