UNOY Peacebuilders is a non-political, non-religious, non-governmental organisation which welcomes youth membership regardless of gender, ethnicity, social class, religion, sexual orientation, or any other status. The UNOY Peacebuilders has 90 members on the European continent (incl. from CIS countries and Baltic States) and 232 in Africa and 10 in Latin America Mission statement: To link up young peoples and youth organisations initiatives for peace in a global network of young peace-builders, to help empower their capacities and to help increase the effectiveness of their actions. The core activities of the UNOY Peacebuilders centres around: Capacity Building: in peace building and youth advocacy related knowledge and skills, project and institutional development skills, developing also educational tools and providing information through its online Resource. Since its inception in 1989, the United Network Of Young Peacebuilders has organised a number of international working group meetings (the Netherlands), peace-building training seminars (India, Belarus, The Netherlands) and continental, regional and local training seminars (South Africa, Benin, Sierra Leone, Ukraine in Crimea & The Netherlands) Advocacy and Campaigning: the Peace IT Together campaign is a UNOY global youth campaign to promote the Decade for Culture of Peace and Non-violence. In October 2005, the UNOY Youth Advocacy Teams (YAT) went to the United Nations in New York to promote the World Civil Society Midterm Report and to lobby countries for their support for the Decade of a Culture of Peace and acknowledge the role of civil society. They visited 48 UN Permanent Missions, and made this project a great success, resulting in an official acknowledgment of the role of civil society and recognition by the European Union of the importance of our work: The European Union pays particular tribute to the United Network of Young Peacebuilders. Their work is an example to us all, and evidence of the significant role that civil society can play in advancing a culture of peace. In October 2006 the UNOY Youth Advocacy Team followed up the first tour with a second visit to the UN headquarters to urge other members states to support the UN Decade for a Culture of Peace Delaration and advocate for the UN Pinheiro Report on violence against youth and children and lobby for a greater role of youth in the global affairs. Supportive measures: Networking: UNOY Peacebuilders has a network of Youth groups, Youth NGOs and individuals world wide connecting with each other by internet and during regional trainings. UNOY Peacebuilders shares information with its affiliates and members through newsletters and e-letters and the website. The affiliates and members are clustered by region. Research: UNOY Peacebuilders initiates practical research in assistance to its capacity building and advocacy work.
