I also like our art galleries because they are very good meeting places with very friendly environments and many people come there to discuss business.The artworks that you find there are very intresting and educative.\par \i0\par \b b) What kinds of spaces/places do you dislike and why? Please elaborate.\b0\line\i Commuter and taxi ranks lot of illegal deals that go on there and people easily get harassed for silly things like dressing.Most criminals also find them as good hide outs and therefore the environment is usually a tense one.These places are also littered with gabbage and litter as they are given little attention by the city councils interm s of cleaning them and keeping them clean.They are also a bit too crowded.\par \i0\line\b c) What three changes would you like to see your city\rquote s urban planning that would make your cit ny more harmonious for yourself and others of your gender?\line\b0\i There is need to put up police posts on designated commuter and taxi ranks to protect citizens.Rubish collection points must also be put up to assist with keeping these places clean.\par There is also need for infrastructure to be put up to cater for those who are in the informal sector.There are many people in the informal sector but they do not have anywhere to operate from and thus the need to cater for them through building the necessary and relevant infrastructure.\par \cf1\f1\fs20 There is need to upgrade some of our high density surbubs so that they have capacity to take care of residents there.For instance the sewage systems can no longer take care of the ever increasiond population.This has resulted in the sewage pipes bursting many a times and hencve posing a healthy hazard to these communities.People are now overcrowded, the dumping sites are now overwhelmed, water supplies are now eratic.Things are just falling apart because the infrastructure cannot cater for these numbers as they were designed to cater for a limited number.\cf0\f0\fs24\par \i0\line\b d) What is the role of young women and men in making these changes? \par \b0\i Young women and men as agents of change should actively participates in the planning processes of their cities.They need to be proactive and find ways of making sure that they are listened to by the planners and not just play the listeners\rquote role.They also need to do continuous lobbying so that the authorities that be can give them an ear.They could also assist by carrying out voluntary work aimed at keeping their cities clean, fighting crime and become productive citizens.\line\i0\line Question 2\line 2. \b a) How do you as a young woman or a young man experience social equity? Please elaborate and give examples\b0 .\par \i Shelter- I do not own my own accommodation and hence depend on the patronage of the land lord and of the month and my income is such that by the end of the month I am stretched to the limit. I have to stand by the road side and fag down lifts to get to work while my neighbours drive expensive cars that I can\rquote t afford therefore tend to suffer from inferiority complex.\par \i0\line\b c) From your viewpoint as a young person, what are the three key issues that need to be tackled to increase social equity and inclusiveness in your town or city? Who should tackle these key issues? Please elaborate.\par \b0\i Availability of affordable transport- This should be tackled by the city authorities in close cooperation with the national government via the relevant ministry since it is the ultimate authority in dealing with issues that affect us as citizens. They should also consult with transport owners and service providers to make sure that they are involved I the planning processes in the interest of making whatever resolution sustainable.\par Provision of accommodation \endash City authorities should facilitate the formation of housing brigades and also by making land available for low income housing cooperatives to cushion those who are at the bottom wrung of the social ladder. Without accommodation one cannot actively participate in any developmental issues because there is no sense of permanence. \par Youth empowerment -as they are the most energetic and productive force of any city the youth must be empowered through the relevant ministry. Once the youths are empowered they can then meaningfully contribute to the development of the city. Since the empowerment of the youths can also lead to the reduction of criminal activities in our city there is need to involve citizens in the empowerment process of the youths.\line\i0\line\b d) What is the role of young women and men in increasing social equity? Please elaborate.\line\b0\i Young people should come up with their own initiatives to improve their own cause. They should\par Be proactive rather than to wait to be given things on a silver plate. Its easier for young people to draw people to sympathies with their cause and come to their assistance if they have brilliant ideas and are actually seen to be doing things. They should be agents of change and thus should vigorously lobby and make continuous advocacy efforts for their voices to be effectively heard.
