Le Bureau rgional de lOMS pour lAfrique (OMS/AFRO) a compil les informations ci-dessous pour faciliter la conception, la diffusion et lutilisation de messages cls sur la grippe A(H1N1) au niveau des pays. Ces informations doivent tre utilises comme un complment aux autres documents de lOMS/AFRO qui visent aider les pays organiser une rponse efficace la grippe A(H1N1). Le prsent document doit servir de rfrence pour tous ceux qui participent la promotion de la sant aux fins de prvention et de matrise de la maladie. Points prendre en considration dans la conception de messages sur la grippe A(H1N1), lintention du public Les informations doivent tre communiques au public le plus rapidement possible pour faciliter la prparation et la rponse la grippe A(H1N1). Les informations doivent tre adaptes aux circonstances conomiques spcifiques, et notamment la culture et la langue. Les messages doivent tre exacts et simples, et doivent avoir fait lobjet dessais au pralable pour en faciliter la comprhension et la pertinence. Quest-ce que la grippe A(H1N1)? La grippe A(H1N1) est une maladie cause par un virus qui affecte le systme respiratoire. Les symptmes de la grippe A(H1N1) sont les suivants: Forte fivre; Toux et/ou maux de gorge; Douleurs corporelles; Maux de tte, refroidissement et fatigue; Dans certains cas, vomissements et diarrhe. Les complications de la maladie sont notamment la pneumonie et les problmes respiratoires. Comment se propage la grippe A(H1N1)? Les virus grippaux se propagent principalement dune personne une autre par les gouttelettes mises en toussant ou en ternuant. Parfois, les personnes peuvent tre infectes en touchant des surfaces ou en rentrant en contact avec des objets contamins par les virus grippaux (par exemple les mains, les poignets de porte, les mouchoirs, les mouchoirs en papier), avant de se toucher la bouche, le nez ou les yeux. Comment prendre en charge la grippe A(H1N1)? Il ny a pas de vaccin disponible pour le moment. Des recherches sont en cours pour la production dun vaccin. Ladministration dantiviraux (mdicaments contre les infections virus) peut attnuer la gravit de la maladie et acclrer le rtablissement. Le Tamiflu est lun des mdicaments efficaces. Les antiviraux permettent galement de prvenir les complications graves de la grippe. Les antiviraux sont plus efficaces lorsquils sont administrs peu aprs que lon tombe malade (dans les deux jours suivant lapparition des symptmes). Les personnes traites laide dantiviraux recouvrent habituellement pleinement la sant, et aucune rsistance aux mdicaments recommands na t documente jusqu prsent. Les agents de sant doivent prendre des dcisions sur le traitement, en se basant sur lvaluation clinique et pidmiologique. Ils doivent accorder une attention particulire aux patients prsentant des complications. Comment une personne en contact ou susceptible dtre expose une personne malade peut-elle viter dtre infecte? Il est vivement recommand de se laver rgulirement les mains leau et au savon (ou de se frotter les mains en utilisant un dsinfectant base dalcool, sil y en a). Se tenir une distance dau moins deux mtres (six pieds), par rapport la personne infecte, pour viter dentrer en contact avec les gouttelettes secrtes. En cas de contact avec une personne malade ou des surfaces ou objets potentiellement infects, les personnes concernes ne doivent pas se toucher les yeux, le nez ou la bouche sans stre dabord lav les mains. Les contacts troits avec une personne malade doivent tre vits; il est conseill de sabstenir de se serrer la main, de sembrasser ou de se donner des accolades pendant une flambe. Ceux qui soccupent des personnes malades doivent porter un masque facial, conformment aux directives des autorits sanitaires nationales. Il est conseill dtre physiquement actif, de boire beaucoup de fluides, de bien manger, de rduire le stress et de dormir suffisamment pour renforcer le systme immunitaire. Que peuvent faire les individus infects pour prvenir la propagation de la grippe A(H1N1) aux autres? Toute personne infecte doit se couvrir la bouche avec un morceau de tissu ou un mouchoir en papier en ternuant ou en toussant; aprs utilisation, le mouchoir en papier doit tre limin de manire approprie, tandis que le morceau de tissu doit tre lav au savon, puis sch et remplac aussi souvent que ncessaire. La personne infecte doit porter un masque en prsence dautres personnes. Les mouchoirs en papier, les morceaux de tissu, les mouchoirs et autres matriels utiliss par une personne malade pour sessuyer le nez et la bouche ne doivent pas tre utiliss par dautres personnes. En labsence de mouchoirs en papier, la personne malade doit ternuer ou tousser de ct au niveau du coude et non dans la paume des mains, de peur que celles-ci ne contaminent les lieux et les objets tenus ou touchs. La personne infecte doit se laver les mains au savon et leau, en particulier aprs avoir ternu ou touss et avant de toucher les poignets de porte ainsi que dautres objets/surfaces, afin de prvenir la contamination par les gouttelettes. Les personnes malades doivent rester domicile et limiter autant que possible les contacts avec les autres. Il est conseill de rechercher des soins mdicaux immdiatement aprs une suspicion dinfection, ds lapparition des symptmes ou lorsquon est invit le faire par un agent de sant. Que doivent faire les communauts pour aider prvenir la propagation de la grippe A(H1N1)? Veiller ce que les membres de la communaut connaissent les moyens de prvention de la propagation de la grippe, les symptmes de la maladie et ce quil faut faire en cas dinfection. Veiller ladministration de soins aux personnes infectes. Appuyer la distanciation sociale, lisolement ou la quarantaine, si cela est requis par les agents de sant (selon les autorits sanitaires). Prendre contact avec ltablissement de sant le plus proche qui fournira un appui pour la prise en charge de la maladie. Signaler les cas et dcs suspects aux autorits sanitaires et/ou autres autorits comptentes.
